Map and Atlas Cataloging Workshop

A Workshop sponsored by the California Library Association Access,
Collections, and Technical Services Section

This full-day workshop will cover all descriptive elements of map
cataloging and a brief introduction to subject and classification.  Topics
specifically to do with maps covered at the workshop include: fixed field
assignment, figuring the scale of the map and its transcription, main
entry, and note fields (including how to identify relief and ancillary and
inset maps).
The workshop will include hands on exercises for the participants and
ample time for discussion.

Speaker:  Cathy Gerhart, Music/Media Cataloger at the University of
Washington, who has been teaching map cataloging since 1991 for a variety
of audiences including OCLC Pacific, SOLINET and the Online Audiovisual
Catalogers (OLAC).

DATE/LOCATION:  The workshop will be given twice:
         Thursday, August 10 at University of California, Berkeley
             And
          Friday, August 11 at University of California, Los Angeles

Time: 9:00 - 12:00 & 1:00-4:00
(coffee & pastries will be served before the workshop begins)

COST:          $35.00 for CLA/ACTSS members
               $40.00 for CLA members
               $45.00 for nonmembers
             (workshop cost includes lunch)
