I think it's important to note that most of the quads were not being
reissued anyway.  Richard (I believe it was him) presented a number of
years ago that the average age of a quad was 30 years, and that USGS was
issuing new ones only when another agency could contribute funds.

In 5 years of being a map librarian (almost to the day;  You may now
send me wood or cutlery!)  I received maybe 4 shipments of new quads.
I'd guess that all were produced in conjunction with NFS.

If going non-print (or non-litho) allows them to issue current maps,
then I'm all for it.  The rest of the Depository program is heading in
this direction anyway.  Now let's get busy and figure out how to archive
them.
