For those who are already members of ALA’s Map & Geography Round Table
(MAGERT), you are aware that the October issue of Baseline and more
recently issue #16 of Meridian were distributed to MAGERT members. For
those of you who are thinking about joining MAGERT, but haven’t quite taken
the plunge yet, here’s what you <would> be enjoying in these two recent
publications.

Each issue of Baseline contains reviews of new maps and map-related
resources. Baseline also keeps readers abreast of developments on the map
cataloging front, and this issue even includes some "Gift suggestions for
Map Lovers." Baseline is a time-saver for those who "do" maps only part-time.

Meridian, a semi-annual journal, "… encourages articles advancing the
organization and dissemination of cartographic and geographic information
and documents the changing trends and issues in cartographic and geographic
librarianship," as per Notes to Contributors. Issue #16 included book
reviews, calendar, and numerous articles looking toward the new millennium
and what it may hold for cartographic library folk.

Want to join and get your own copies from now on??? ALA membership
renewals will be arriving soon, and a personal membership in MAGERT adds
only $15 to your ALA dues. For this $15, you will receive these two
interesting publications, plus we hope you will attend MAGERT meetings and
programs at ALA conferences, as well as get involved with MAGERT
committees, task forces, etc. (see our web site at:
http://www.sunysb.edu/libmap/magert1.htm).

BOTTOM LINE: When your ALA renewal comes, please join MAGERT, as a renewal
or first-time member.

Thanks. Mary McInroy, current MAGERT Membership Committee Chair
