I am cataloging a land speculation map from ca. 1860. Below the title
is the name J. Cook followed by the abbreviation S.H.C. The map was
printed in St. Louis. I suspect that Cook was the surveyor, but knowing
what S.H.C. means would help me to determine his part in the production
of the map. I've tried a number of online sources for abbreviations,
but have had no luck. Would any of you know what S.H.C. stands for or
know of a source that I could try?
