The Moderator has combined two messages into one message as they all
are answers to the Circulation Policies question posted recently.

XXXXXMessage 1XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

We circulate mostly everything except rare, expensive or otherwise hard
to get items. We have large format scan and print capability so we
encourage patrons to make a copy that they keep.

Only patrons directly affiliated with the University may check out maps
since we can hold them to their fines.

I look forward to the responses since I sometimes question circulation
even though our policy is to be as accessible as possible. We like to
believe that circulation cuts down on theft.

Here my two cents worth. (I had initially sent my response diretly to Mr.
Kawula)

We circulate map sheets. Our internal clients have a 3 month loan period
with 2 renewals. External clients have a 3 week loan period with no
renewal. If the clients are outside the federal government, they must pay a
$5.00 loan charge plus taxes and shipping & handling charges if applicable.
Our circulation is automated. We barcode all new Canadian and American map
sheets upon receipt. The foreign material is barcoded when it is checked
out. Our library system is Innovative Interface Inc Library System
(INNOPAC).

I hope this is of help to you. For additional information, please visit our
library web site at: http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/ess/esic/esic_e.html, under
"Document Delivery".
