Subject: 1:100,000 scale digital line graphs
 
        This has probably come up on Maps-L before, but I can't recall the
discussion.  In any case, it is probably worth raising again since the world of
computer software is constantly changing.
        I have just started trying to display the digital line graph 1:100,000
files, and havn't figured out how to do it.  I am looking for a user friendly
and inexpensive program (preferably free).  I do not want to load them into an
expensive GIS program, which I don't have.  Supposedly these can be displayed
using Geologic Information Visualization (GIV) software from U.S.G.S.  I
downloaded some of this software, but the documentation is terrible and I can't
even get the decompression program to work.  Should I continue trying to work
with GIV, or is there an easier way?  Has anybody else had experiences
(positive or negative) with GIV or other public domain/inexpensive software
for working with these files?
