LIBRARIAN II or III , Cataloger, position number 0083582, UHM Library
Serv, (Manoa), tenure track, full-time, general funds, available 07/01/06.
Duties: Under the direction of the Head of Cataloging, creates full-level
original catalog records for library materials in various languages and
formats using AACR2r and Library of Congress Rule Interpretations, LC
classification and subject headings, MARC21 formats, and Endeavor Voyager
integrated library system; contributes name, series, and subject authority
records through NACO/SACO cooperative programs; upgrades bibliographic,
authority, and holdings records in the online catalog as necessary;
enhances existing OCLC records to PCC BIBCO core- and full-level
standards; participates in developing and reviewing departmental policies
and procedures; maintains awareness of cataloging and access issues.
Professional growth and service activities in keeping with university and
library requirements for retention, tenure, and promotion are expected.

Minimum qualifications: Librarian II: ALA accredited MLS or international
equivalent. Good oral and written communication skills in English.
Cataloging coursework or experience. Librarian III: In addition to the
MLS, 24 post-baccalaureate credits. At least 3 yrs. of Cataloging
experience.

Desirable qualifications: Working knowledge of current
cataloging standards, including AACR2r, Library of Congress Rule
Interpretations and MARC21 formats. Working knowledge of LC Classification
and LCSH. Experience with a library integrated system (e.g., Endeavor
Voyager) and OCLC cataloging software (e.g., Connexion client software).
Reading knowledge of one or more foreign languages (reading knowledge of
South Asian or Southeast Asian languages especially desired) Experience
cataloging a variety of bibliographic formats. Experience with a
non-AACR/MARC metadata schema. Experience with computer applications such
as word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software;
experience with other relevant computer applications. Demonstrated ability
to work effectively independently and in teams.

Pay range: Librarian II:
$36,720-$54,360; Librarian III: $42,840- $63,588. To apply: Submit cover
