Hi,

Has anyone compiled a list of the corresponding names of the old USGS
quads to
the new names? I am thinking in particular of the USGS thematic map
series (GQ, I, HA, etc.). For example, I-40's quad is called "Straight
Cliffs-1" (1:24,000); today, the topo covering the same area is called
"King Mesa".
GQ-250 covers the "Paradise Peak" (1:62,500), which is now the
1:24,000 quads of "Downeyville", "Ellsworth", "Gabbs", and "Paradise
Peak".

The excellent "area index" in "Guide to USGS Publications" by Laurie
Andriot lists maps by quad names. However, the book
does not list the corresponding new 1:24,000 quad names. Often, in
helping patrons, we
will miss geologic maps because the we are uncertain of the translation
from the older names or different scale to the new names.

Thanks,
