Subject: Maps in Remote Storage

Hi.

I had some quick questions about maps in remote storage.

The most important one is -- if you have moved maps into a remote
storage facility how are they stored? Flat in map cases, rolled in some
kind of tube, or something else?

If your maps are stored rolled, what kind of physical impacts have you
seen on the materials?

When you were making your storage method decision what impacted your
decision?

Are the maps in sets controlled by barcode to the individual piece
level? How do retrievers find the maps? By barcode or by sheet number?

Who retrieves the maps? Map collection employees or remote storage
facility employees?

How are the maps transported to the area where they are going to be
used? Rolled or flat?

How did you prepare the maps (especially map sets) that were sent to
remote storage? How does the potential user discover which sheets are
housed in remote storage?

Many thanks!
