The Third Edition of William P. Cumming "The Southeast In Early Maps" Revised
& Enlarged by Louis DeVorsey, Jr. has just arrived on my desk. It is an
exceedingly handsome, oversized book with quality illustrations, 24 in color.
The earlier edition is an indispensable basic reference work and this third
edition is a major revision. Dr. DeVorsey has made a few structural changes,
added some new information and illustrations, and an original essay titled
"American Indians and the Early Mapping of the Southeast." The map number
system of the old editions was not changed. This book is a required reference
book for all comprehensive map libraries, historical map libraries, and
collectors of maps of the Southeast before the American Revolution.
