The University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking candidates for three
full-time positions in VISUAL CULTURE STUDIES beginning academic year
2002-2003. Appointments may be made at the Assistant, Associate, or
Full Professor level at salaries commensurate with candidates'
qualifications. The home departments of successful applicants will
be determined according to their areas of specialization and may
involve joint appointments.

Applicants should have strong records of scholarly publication and/or
creative practice. Work may focus on any aspect of Visual Culture,
but must demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary research. We
will consider all areas of the arts, humanities, social and natural
sciences that engage questions of vision and visual systems. The
University is particularly interested in attracting candidates whose
research and teaching interests include transnational and
multi-ethnic dimensions. New hires will need to meet the teaching,
research, and service expectations of the home department(s) and the
University.

New hires should be prepared to develop new curricula in Visual
Culture Studies and to assume leadership roles in the
extra-curricular activities of a campus-wide Visual Culture group.
These hires are part of the Cluster Hiring initiative at the
University of Wisconsin, which was developed to support new areas of
knowledge, address complex societal issues, and provide collaborative
research opportunities. For information about the history and
objectives of the University of Wisconsin Cluster Hiring Program, see
