Subject: Re: Queen cities (geotrivia) (fwd)

My encyclopedia agrees that New Orleans is the Queen City of the
Mississippi and Cincinnati is the Queen City of the West. In 1850,
Cincinnati and New Orleans had much larger populations than Detroit,
Chicago, or St. Louis. I don't know when they acquired the name "Queen
City," but it would appear that "second largest" is not the explanation.
