We have a new position open at CU Boulder, working in our newly formed
Sciences Department within the Libraries. I think it’s an exciting

Position Announcement – Interdisciplinary Science Librarian

**

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries seeks an enthusiastic,
innovative, and flexible professional to join the University Libraries
faculty as an Interdisciplinary Science Librarian. The successful
candidate will possess a forward-looking, experimental, service-oriented
philosophy of librarianship. They will continually seek to improve
services, collections, policies, and procedures by diagnosing patrons’
information needs, prescribing solutions, evaluating their efficacy, and
revising accordingly.

Working in a newly formed Sciences Department, the Interdisciplinary
Librarian reports to the Director of the department and works closely
with the Life, Applied, Earth, and Physical Science Librarians. This
position is primarily responsible for providing collections and services
to campus faculty and students in interdisciplinary atmospheric and
environmental sciences, but as a member of the Science Librarians Team
is willing to assume duties in services to patrons in any scientific
discipline. He or she will also help build and manage relationships and
services with research institutes, centers, and federal labs involved in
relevant research and will participate in cross-departmental working
groups within the University Libraries.

*Required qualifications include:*

   * Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school, completed by
     December 31, 2012;
   * Coursework and/or experience with library instruction, public
     speaking, or teaching;
   * User-focused approach to library services;
   * Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
   * Capacity to thrive in an exciting, ambiguous, future-oriented
     environment and to respond with agility to changing needs and
     priorities;
   * Strong interpersonal skills;
   * Excellent oral and written communication skills;
   * Awareness of current trends in scholarly communication and research
     data management;
   * Potential for research, scholarly work, and professional service

*Desired qualifications include:*

   * Coursework and/or experience in providing instruction for the
     sciences or engineering;
   * An academic or professional background in the sciences or engineering;
   * Coursework and/or experience in the management of research data;
   * Coursework and/or experience with data collections and services
     (e.g., geospatial, environmental, social sciences);
   * Practical knowledge of issues regarding open access, author rights,
     copyright, etc.;
   * Fluency in pedagogical and research methodologies in the sciences
     and/or engineering;
   * Ability to develop outreach programs to academic communities;
   * Demonstrated ability to assess and improve services;
   * Demonstrated ability to work in an intensely collaborative
     environment and manage projects;
   * Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative;
   * Experience working with diverse populations;
   * Evidence of achievement in research and creative work and
     professional service

*Appointment and Salary: *

The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month),
tenure-stream faculty member. Depending on professional experience,
appointment will be at the assistant professor or senior instructor
level. The minimum starting salary is $48,888. Benefits include 22
working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave,
university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA-CREF
retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities.
Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.
