I am new to this list and don't know much about maps.

A friends (also a scholar) is looking to obtain permission to use a some maps in a publication. Apparently he's down to the last, very frustrating, few. Does anyone have some advice re either Hammond or Langescheidt?

Here are the Hammond maps for which he'd like to include digitized versions in a manuscript:

(1) Hammond Ambassador World Atlas, 1960, p 55, "Burma, Thailand, Indochina, and the Federation of Malaya." (G1019_H265 1960 at the Donald Hamer Map Library, University Park, PA)

(2) Hammond Standard World Atlas, 1962, p 30, "Burma, Thailand, Indochina, and the Federation of Malaya." (G1019_H501 1962 at the Donald Hamer Map Library, University Park, PA)

(3) “Vietnam and its Neighbors” from Hammond’s two-sided folded sheet, The Vietnam Conflict Map, 1965. (G8021_S73_1967_H3 at the Donald Hamer Map Library, University Park, PA)

(4) “Freedom’s Struggle in Asia” from Hammond’s two-sided folded sheet, The Vietnam Conflict Map, 1965. (G8021_S73_1967_H3 at the Donald Hamer Map Library, University Park, PA.

He has also been trying very hard -- and I also tried -- to find *anyone* at Langescheidt in their German office who handles permissions? Not "Kontakt" -- a real person or permissions office?

Thanks to any of you map experts that can offer any advice on this. It will be very much appreciated.
