Hi;

The good engineering/drafting supply stores in big cities often stock the
tubes you are talking about. They are designed for blueprints. They are
hard plastic, 3 to 5 inches in diameter (diameter increasing with length)
and expandable. They come with a shoulder strap. The supplier that made
the one we have makes about 4 or 5 lengths (maximum length) if I remember
correctly. They are great for carrying maps, etc. If you have trouble
getting them, let me know and I can dig out the company that made ours.

I have found that using household plumbing pipe with the either the readily
availble plugs and caps that fit each end make indestructable, waterproof,
reusable, cheap mailing and storage tubes. They can be cut to desired
length easily, labels stick to them and can be scraped off if the glue
won't let loose. They come in a wonderful variety of diameters for all
kinds of mailing. They cost a little more to mail because they are thick
and weighty, but the fact that they can be reused a hundred times over
makes the the life cycle cost unbeatable.

Jennie,

our shipping department gets supplies from a place called U-Line, which has
apparently good prices and lots of types of tubes and wraps. I ordered a box
of 25 3" x 36" plastic-coated cardboard tubes with re-usable plastic end
caps, which are really good. Don't recall prices or an address this weekend,
but give 'em a search, they may have what you are after.
