Dear All,
You might be familiar with the 1808 map of Sydney Cove that was erected
in First Fleet Park, Sydney, for the Bicentennial in 1988:
http://www.100roads.com/images/australia/sydney/tank_stream_00_start.jpg
It's a famous meeting point at Circular Quay, and you'll frequently see
large groups of school students gathered around it. Its location marks
the original position of the beginning of the Tank Stream, Sydney's
original water supply.
An architect who originally worked on this structure has been in touch
with us. She mentioned that the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority has
plans to redesign First Fleet Park. A recent article about the
redevelopment can be viewed here:
http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/fury-as-first-fleet-park-to-make-way-for-lots-of-grass-20110708-1h6oc.html.
The final resting place of the map has changed a couple of times during
the planning process. At present the map is to be moved directly into
the path of pedestrian traffic between Circular Quay Station and the
Overseas Passenger Terminal.
You can view the plans for First Fleet Park at
http://www.shfa.nsw.gov.au/content/wcq/CommunityConsultationBoards.pdf.
The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority welcomes comments, which can be
made online
(http://www.shfa.nsw.gov.au/sydney-Our_places_and_projects-Our_projects-West_Circular_Quay_Revitalisation.htm)

until 30 September 2011.
Regards,
Andy Carr.
