*Recipients of Western Association of Map Libraries service awards,
2006-2007 *



The WAML Executive board awarded service awards to the following:  2007,
Cynthia Jahns, Mabel Suzuki, and Linda Zellmer;  2006, Katherine Rankin,
and Julie Sweetkind-Singer.



*2007 awards*



Cynthia Jahns, Head, Maps Unit, Science & Engineering Library, U. of
California, Santa Cruz, received one of two Distinguished Service Award
plaques for 2007.  She is the current WAML News & Notes Editor and
serves on several committees.  Cynthia served as WAML Treasurer
2002-06.  She contributed to the redesign of the WAML website, and
hosted the Fall, 2003 conference.



Mabel Suzuki, Documents Librarian, Government Documents and Maps Dept.,
U. of Hawaii at Manoa library, is the recipient of an Award of
Excellence certificate for 2007.  She is currently WAML Past President.
Mabel has contributed to the Information Bulletin of WAML.  She
co-hosted conferences in 1992 and 2002. Mabel updated job descriptions
for WAML officers and sought out map libraries affected by the Katrina
disaster.



Linda Zellmer, Head, Geology Library, Indiana University Libraries, is
the recipient of a Distinguished Service Award plaque for 2007.  Linda
is the Editor of the WAML Map Librarian’s Toolbox.  Linda served as WAML
Web Manager from 1997-2006 and Editor of the WAML News & Notes.  She was
an Editor of the Information Bulletin as well as contributing as a State
Editor.  Linda served as WAML President 1998/99, and hosted the Fall,
1994 conference.  She has contributed in other committees and kept WAML
updated with news of note.

*2006 awards*



Katherine Rankin, special formats cataloger, University of Nevada at Las
Vegas Library, was the recipient of the Certificate of Recognition for
her many years of service as the Atlas and Book Review Editor of the
Information Bulletin (1996-2006).  Ms. Rankin is also a former president
of WAML and has served in many capacities for the organization.





Julie Sweetkind-Singer, head librarian, Branner Earth Sciences Library &
Map Collection at Stanford University, was the 2006 recipient of the
Distinguished Service Award.  Ms. Sweetkind-Singer served as vice
president, president and past president (2003-06) and established the
Continuing Education Committee, conducted the Flood Fund for the
University of Hawaii Library (in conjunction with Cynthia Jahns), served
as a catalyst for the WAML web redesign and member of the Web Committee,
and has been an active proponent and contributor to the WAML Scanning
Clearinghouse Project.
