Colleagues --

While I'm usually not surprised at what our friendly neighbors to the North
choose for decisions it does seem to me that there were so few U.S.
libraries receiving 1:50,000 Canadian topographics that this cannot be
saving considerable money? It is now reasonable to ask "What are we
receiving from Canada for $75 annually and is it worth it?" I doubt that
they are producing enough 1:250K, 1:500K, and National Atlas revisions to
justify $75.

Perhaps it would be interesting to know how many Canadian libraries receive
free USGS maps and ask why? The Canadians have now decided to withhold
maps, have recently decided to withhold water; I wonder what will be next?
Surely, this seems more important than banana's - a map trade war with
Canada could be very interesting?
