The GMD map is very useful indeed for;
   1. those libraries whose maps are
cataloged and kept in an all-formats
sort of online catalog;
    2. maps that don't have the word "Map"
in the title.
Users who (difficult to believe, I know) don't
need a map get upset when they go looking for
something they thought was a book and turned
out to be a map. Although I will say it works
quite well the other direction also - persons
who didn't even consider a map as an information
source, stumble on it this way, and are quite
pleased. Nonetheless - it is very important and
useful.
