Ball State University is a comprehensive regional university with
approximately 18,000 students and 800 faculty.  It is located 50 miles
northeast of Indianapolis in Muncie, whose population numbers 70,000.
The University Libraries consist of a main collection and 2 branch
libraries with holdings of 1.5 million volumes.  It employs 38
librarians and 77 support staff

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) AND MAP LIBRARIAN:
Responsibilities: provide reference assistance and instruction with
digital geospatial and traditional cartographic resources in the
Geospatial Center and Map Collection (GCMC); provide general research
assistance at the Bracken Library reference desk; promote use of the
GCMC through exhibits, lectures, tours, and print/electronic
publications; recommend service objectives, output measures, and
procedures for the GCMC; build and develop GIS and cartographic
resources to support the teaching, research, and service missions of the
university, including digitization of appropriate print resources in the
collection; supervise and train support staff; perform other duties as
assigned.

Minimum qualification:  MLS/MLIS/MIS degree from an ALA-accredited
program at time of appointment; one or more years of experience
involving GIS support and training along with graphics application
support and management; one or more years of experience with a library
map collection; experience with ArcView 3.x, ArcGIS 8.x, and other GIS
software; effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred qualifications:  bachelor's degree in a discipline with an
emphasis on spatial data, such as in the field of architecture, earth
sciences, land use planning, or geography; experience with promoting GIS
and geographical applications for use in education and research;
supervisory experience; teaching and/or training experience; advanced
degree in architecture, cartography, geography, or similar field that
makes extensive use of GIS.

Salary negotiable from a minimum of $38,000.
