Subject: [MapHist] Digital Version of the Nolli Map of Rome

The School of Architecture and the Infographics Lab of the University of
Oregon
have released a digital version of the 1748 highly detailed map of Rome by
Nolli. The original was made in 12 sections since it was too big, six
by seven feet,
for the printing technology of the time. These sections have been
combined and
the digital version is interactive. For example, you can easily fade
back and forth
between the Nolli map and a modern orbital image registered to it.

The interactive map, together with supporting materials, may be found at:

                 http://nolli.uoregon.edu/

There is an article on the project in today's Eugene Register Guard and
I will
post this later today when it becomes available in digital form.
