Subject: Rephotographing aerial photographs

I am considering a project to rephotograph and make prints available of
a 1930s vintage set of aerial photographs. I would like to make prints and/or
microfilm available to several local (Long Island) libraries. I have a gut
feeling that the only way to get adequate resolution on a project of this kind
is to have 4 x 5" black-and-white negatives made, but I recall from previous
discussions on Maps-L that some projects of this kind have been made using
microfilm. I would like to hear of any experiences (positive or negative) that

people have had microfilming old aerial photographs. I have recently received
an announcement from NEDCC that it is introducing a new continuous tone
microfilm. Does anyone have any thoughts on the suitability of this microfilm
for a project of this kind?
