        Chris & MAPS-L:

The 1:50,000 DMA topographic maps are useful since:

                1. ... the USGS 1:62,500s has been discontinued and
are somewhat dated (roads etc.), they serve as a fairly
                    recent reference tool.

                2. ... they provide a more-detailed and easily-read UTM
                    grid.

A multi-sheet index is available from DMA (maybe) which makes
locating a desired sheet much easier than the one tiny one that
most U.S. depsitory libraries received several years ago. The one
that is unfortunately like the PAIGH 1:250,000 index.

The sheet (and series) numbering follows the same as older AMS/DMA
series. If you look at the "V" series and the AMS/DMA 1:250,000
U.S. Series, you will see that that there is an Eastern
U.S./Western U.S. and many different indexes for the various states
(or "V" series). That is why the numbering seems confusing.
