RE: MAPS-L: The September Project

I received this announcement via a few sources and thought perhaps some
of you may be interested in participating ...

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Please consider participating in The September Project, a grassroots
effort to encourage public events in libraries on or around September
11. Events focus on ideas that matter, such as freedom, democracy, and
citizenship. (http://www.theseptemberproject.org/)

So far there are over 300 public, academic, school, and special
libraries in 14 countries participating in the project
(http://www.drizzle.com/%7Eklockner/cgi-bin/tsp/2005/map.cgi).
September Project events are not necessarily about September 11; they
are events of reflection, discussion, and dialogue about the meaning of
democracy, the role of information in promoting active citizenship, and
the importance of literacy in making sense of the world around us.
Libraries are organizing displays, talks, and art exhibitions; youth and
teen readings and writings; voter information and voter registration,
and so much more. For more than 100 examples of events and programs,
please visit: http://www.theseptemberproject.org/pastevents.htm

Events take place on September 11, on the weekend of September 11, or
throughout the month of September, whichever date works best for
libraries and communities.

If you plan to offer programs that explore these ideas--even if your
plans aren't solidified--you can sign up your library on the web site to
appear on the map of participants. Please visit:

Thank you for your time and consideration,
