Another quick and dirty way is to direct the person to the USGS GNIS-
http://geonames.usgs.gov/  and instruct them to enter 'the' in the
search box, check the exact match box, and select individual stats from
the menu. And repeat.  50 times.

Angela,

A quick and dirty way to do this may be to use the LCAF and scroll through
all the headings starting with "The" ?? Just a thought, that might be just
as complicated as thumgbing through a bunch of gazetteers, online or
otherwise...
