The North Carolina Collection, University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill Library, will host a two-day conference on historical maps and
cartography of the United States on Friday-Saturday, November 3-4,
2006. Entitled Maps for the New Nation: Mapping and Cartography of the
United States, 1776-1860, the conference will feature six speakers on
various aspects of American mapping and cartography in the early
national and antebellum periods. David Rumsey, President of
Cartography Associates and Director of Luna Imaging, will deliver the
Friday night banquet keynote address. A special exhibit of notable
maps of the Tar Heel state from these periods will be mounted this fall
in the NCC Gallery in the Louis Round Wilson Library and be on display
during the conference. Additional information on the conference is
available at: http://www.lib.unc.edu/ncc/maps/
Advance registration is required, and early registration is strongly
advised.
The conference is being co-sponsored by the Wiliam P. Cumming Map
