At Milwaukee Public Library, the map collection is lumped in
with the Humanities department. We have other special
collections as well, such as historic Milwaukee photos. We
do have a light table and photo stand for patrons to use.

Do your map libraries still offer light tables for
patron use? Or this this item a relic of the old
days of cartography?
(We need to decide whether or not to keep ours.)

At EMU we still have two light tables in the library which are heavily used
by cartography students who come to work on projects as well as others who
need to trace a map for whatever reason. Usually it is because the map they
want has more information on it than they want or need. Joanne Hansen

We have 2 medium sized light tables (24 x 30" and 24 x 36"). Both are
heavily used, not only for map tracing, but for photographic matching as
well. I consider them as essential to a map library as oversized
photocopiers, which we also have 2 of.
