         USER SURVEYS (A)
 
The "Groupe des Cartothecaires de LIBER" [LIBER = Ligue des
Bibliotheques Europeennes de Recherche], the European
Mapcuratorsgroup, has organized in 1987 an "Inquiry into map-use
and user-habits in Europe".
There were 2,847 questionaires coming from 96 institutions in 8
countyries filled in.
The questionnaire consisted of 21 questions (most with several
options to fill in) divided into several chapters: background of
user, kind of documents requested, library services (catalogues,
reference-library, help of mapcurator), reproduction-facilities.
 
The final report (by me, who was and still is secretary of the
board of this group) was published under the following title:
 
"Report on the 'Inquiry into map-use and user-habits in Europe'".
In: ERCL The LIBER Quarterly, Vol. 1, 1991, no. 3, p. 283-310.
Diagrams, questionnaire and arithmatic results included.
