>Subject: Map of the city of Williamsburgh...[NY] 1852

     Dear Mapsters,

A reader here at NYPL is seeking a copy of the following map, of which
we have one copy in poor condition. I had no luck searching RLIN or
OCLC, and the reader says he tried U.S.L.C.

     Thomas W. Field

Map of the City of Williamsburgh and town of Bushwick including Green
Point with part of the City of Brooklyn. Surveyed and published by
     Thomas W. Field, 1852.

This is an old wall/roller map, ca. 47 x 59" originally.
Ours was cut into 4 pieces, and then 8 pieces years ago, and
encapsulated. Because of the Mylar and the glazing on the original
map, copies cannot be made from the map in our collection.
We are looking for an alternative in another library.

The above towns are all in Kings County, and all four were separate
communities before the 1898 consolidation of the city. Therefore this
map could be filed as a separate city map under W in a New York State
file; or under Kings County, or worse, under Brooklyn [although in
1852 these were independent of Brooklyn/Kings County!].

OK, now that the NYC history lesson is done--anybody out there have
this? Our reader, actually from California, of all places, would be
     happy to know of it.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance,

     Alice Hudson
