Ed Redmond gave a very good description of our large format scanning for
patrons. Since this came up later, I want to add that in general we scan
materials out of Copyright and those images will become part of the Map
Collections online. If the patron has a letter giving them permission
from the Copyright holder to scan the item for them, we do so, but do not
hold onto the scan unless permission extents to the Library and we can put
this item on line. It is rare we get this situation: I think I can count
the number of times a patron has sought Copyright permission without
taking off my shoes.
