I just tried my bookmarked link to the USGS state map lists (where you
can get the file numbers for ordering sheets) and found the link broken
(It worked last week).  Looks like they just overhauled their website,
so your favorite URLs may not work.
   Now one should go through
  store.usgs.gov
  then click on "Enter USGS Store," where you'll find a left column
allowing you to select by type.  Choose 1:24,000 - 7.5 minute quadrangle
maps, and you'll get to where you can look them up by state and sheet
name.
