Thanks to all those who responded to my posting asking whether there was
a Passaic, New Zealand.  There were very helpful responses, including one
from New Zealand that pretty conclusively indicated that there has been no
Passaic in New Zealand!  The patron has determined that a newspaper was
started in Passaic, New Jersey, in the 1870s, which was the time period
of interest, so that he has faxed off to the current one to see whether
it is the one for which he is trying to locate the founder.
