Hello everyone,

It is my hope that the email list - [log in to unmask] - will be
our primary source of announcements and what not, just as it has been
for oh these many years. But I don't see any harm in a facebook page.
Some people love it for staying in touch - socially and professionally -
and I don't have a problem with things getting posted to both places.
This is the age of multiple access points for information.

Also, in regards to attachments, a few years ago we all agreed that
attachments are fine but I've found that they wreak havoc on people who
are still subscribed in digest mode. So, I do occassionally forward
attachments as I get them, but if they can be sent as text or images can
be posted elsewhere - such as my personal webpage here at UW Milwaukee,
then I post them there to help the digest people.

Even if you change the setting at facebook to "secret" that still does
not address the privacy concerns many individuals have with facebook.
So, that's not necessary (IMHO).

I will chime in and say that I concur with Joel's note, I will not join
a Facebook site for anyone, and that includes my own church. For the
exact reasons that Joel laid out -- serious concerns about privacy
issues in particular. And yes, for me it is a generational thing too,
but to a much lesser degree. Heck, I'm on LinkedIn and rarely use it
either, so I'm happy to remain a member of this list because it has
worked well for me over the many years it has been around.
