We are pleased to announce
'FreshWater',
the 15th International Symposium and Reunion for the International
Commission for the History of Nautical Science,
which will be held in Veszprém, Hungary from 25-28 September, 2010 .

Under the theme “Fresh Water”, the 2010 meeting seeks papers/short
communications exploring the scholarly contexts of navigation and
hydrography of fresh
waters (rivers, great lakes) worldwide. Proposals covering traditional
conference themes and
offering new research and/or new perspectives are also welcome. Founded
in 1968 in
Coimbra, the International Committee for the History of Nautical Science
has organized
fourteen international conferences and society reunions. The core
subjects of these meetings
were nautical science, the art of navigation, astronomy and scientific
instruments;
cartography; naval architecture and shipbuilding; maritime exploration
and travel, and the
history of science and art.

First time in its history the Committee organizes a meeting in
landlocked Hungary, far
from the oceans but in the heart of the European continent. From the
ancient times rich
hydrography of the Carpathian Basin was important for the people living
in the region. Our
symposium venue is located in the picturesque medieval castle district
of Veszprém, and close
to this town is Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe. The
symposium is hosted by
the Veszprém Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Science, the
scientific program is
organized by the Commission in cooperation with the Pannon University,
Veszprém and
Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest.

Proposals are invited for papers (30 minutes) /short communications (15
minutes)
informing on current research being undertaken on any of the subjects
relevant for the
conference. Paper proposals in English should include a brief abstract
of 350 words for each
paper, a brief biography (maximum 100 words) for each presenter, and
indication of any
PowerPoint, audiovisual, or other requirements for the presentation.
Proposals for short
communications, or reports on current research and/or scholarly projects
can be submitted in
English, Spanish or Portuguese.

For submissions please, download the Submission Form from our web pages.
Please note that presenters must register for the conference.
The deadline for all submissions is March 1, 2010. The Scientific
Program Committee
will review the submissions and notify the authors of acceptance before
April 15, 2010.

Inquires and electronic proposals should be sent to:

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zsolt G. Török ([log in to unmask])
AND
Assoc. Prof. Dr. István Rákóczi ([log in to unmask])

Note:
Discounted hotel rates and social program will be arranged for
