Dr. Nevin Bryant from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory will discuss NASA's
contributions to modern cartography.**

Dr. Nevin Bryant is a Principal Member of the Instrument Software and
Science Data Systems Section at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He
received his Ph.D. in Geography from The University of Michigan in 1973,
a Masters from the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii in 1967,
and a Bachelor’s from McGill University in 1954.

At his current capacity he has been responsible for the
conceptualization and application of geographic information systems
based on digital image processing technology and the use of remotely
sensed imagery. He has over 39 years of research experience in digital
image processing with over 50 technical publications in these and other
associated areas.

At JPL, Dr. Bryant has worked on the initial development of GIS, and
also led an effort to develop an accurate world map for the National
Geographic Society using over 500 images. Since 1998, Dr. Bryant has
undertaken several research tasks for the Department of Defense. These
have included presentations on imagery analysis and enhancement, and the
preparation of civilian remote sensing data.
