Hi all

Thanks again to everyone for responding to my previous question. I have
another.

First a preface: I don't know much about GIS software beyond making maps,
so I don't really know what full capabilities are, so my questions may be
rather, er, uneducated, which I hope you all don't mind.

I was wondering what kind of data analysis can be done with MapInfo or ESRI
products or what role MapInfo (MI) or ESRI stiff plays in data analysis.
Are they mainly a helping tool? So for example, if you know VAR X and VAR Y
are correlated to some outcome Z, then you use MI to show where VAR X and
VAR Y are clustered, so you know where to look for the outcome Z. Or can MI
or other GIS programs take a more active role, for example doing some
statistical analysis?

Again, I'll post a summary of I get a lot of responses.

Thanks

Gene
