Map and Physical Sciences Librarian, University of Georgia Libraries (Map Library)

The University of Georgia Science Library serves the biological, medical, agricultural and physical sciences, including engineering. The Map Library is a separate facility which houses the cartographic collections, including maps, charts, aerial photographs, atlases, and geospatial data collections in support of teaching and research at the University. The Science Library has over 750,000 volumes and receives access (online and paper) to thousands of periodicals through consortia and direct subscription. The Map Library has approximately 624,000 items and is ranked 20th in ARL Statistics (2004) for member libraries which participate.

This Map and Physical Sciences Librarian reports to the Head, Science Collections & Research Facilities and is responsible for selecting materials, participating in research consultation, developing web pages, building and developing electronic resources for geospatial data, and participating in library-wide activities. The incumbent supervises two full-time staff members in the Map Library and assesses policies and programs and maintains awareness on issues pertinent to specific subject areas.
