------------------
We have a PhD student seeking a copy of a map of Paris pre-Hausmann,
1810-1830 with readable street names.
If anyone has such a beast, could they please contact Ian directly at

>Dear Sabina,

>My supervisor, Peter McPhee, suggested that I should contact you about a
>difficulty I'm having with my PhD. I am working on the history of the Arab
>population of Paris in the early nineteenth century. Last year while in
>Paris I collected a great deal of information, including hundreds of
>addresses, which I desperately need to map out on a map of Paris, with
>clearly readable street names, from somewhere in the period 1810-1830. I
>have contacted Prof. John Merriman from Yale for his advice, and he tells
>me that the Yale library has a wonderful map collection which should
>include such a map. I am wondering if there is any possibility of
>acquiring something either from Yale or elsewhere. There is some urgency
>for me, as as I am giving a paper at the Rudé Conference in mid-July and
>would dearly like to be in a position to present this evidence
>effectively. I would be grateful for any help you could give me, and would
>be keen to come and talk to you about it if you think it is possible. I
>have included the email exchange below in case it may be useful.
>
>Thanking you in advance,
>Yours,
