An exhibit of early maps will be held at the John Hay Library, Brown
University, from March 26 through April 25. This exhibit features some of
the more than 1,000 maps recently rediscovered at the John Hay Library.
Some of the exceptional maps on display include a Nazi tourism map, a map
cited by Herman Melville in writing Moby Dick, and an antislavery map
donated to the library by the family of an abolitionist who graduated from
Brown in 1831. Other maps show the evolution of Providence from a small
seaport to a major manufacturing and railroad center during the 19th
century. This exhibit will be on view through April 25 at the John Hay
Library, 20 Prospect Street, Providence, R.I. Library hours are Monday
through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
