The best postal code and road data for canada is
probably DMTI Spatial's products
http://www.dmtispatial.com/street_networks.htm and
http://www.dmtispatial.com/cm_postal_geo.htm.
Unfortunately they are not free. They provide the data
to most canadian institutions at academic pricing
through a consortium purchase. There had been a plan to
introduce the consortium in the US but I'm not sure
where that is at this point. If you wish further
information, I can get you a contact name at DMTI.
Geobase has most roads but with very few attributes
attached and you usually have to download quite a few
tiles to get the area you want. DMTI's roads are up to
date with very good attributes and come in provincial
files. The postal code files are the ones Canada Post
actually uses to do their routing.
