*CartoMundi – Info 01 – september 2010*

* *

*Dear collegues, *

*The web site of /CartoMundi/* is under construction. It will be
progressively opened.
*1. October 2010.* Opening of the international directory of the map
libraries, producers or sellers of cartographic documents. This
directory is supposed to supersede the one published more than 10 years
ago by the Department of Geography and Mapping IFLA. Participation in
this directory and its consultation will be free.

*2. January 2011.* Public Interface and tools for participation to the
collective catalogue.

*3. April 2011.* Tools for participation to the index of the series.

*However* a detailed presentation of /CartoMundi/ is already online at
the following address http://cartomundi.mmsh.univ-aix.fr
<http://cartomundi.mmsh.univ-aix.fr/>. You will find information about
principles, mode of operation, work organization, costs of use,
interfaces… in four slides show in PDF format:

Chapter 1. Main principles

Chapter 2. Partnerships and financial aspects

Chapter 3. Public interface

Chapter 4. Map librarians interface

*From January 2011*, the website will present a first catalogue for
several sets of maps. This information is being gathered. You are
invited to participate by sending sheet indexes, lists of sheets or
descriptions of series. To help you prepare these documents you will
find guidelines and pre-formated files to record data at the same
address. These documents are in French and in English. Unfortunately the
English version is not completely translated yet.

Whatever the region of the world represented, the period, the reduction
scale or the subject, we are interested by the description of any series
provided they have more than 4 sheets.

*Any form of contribution* will give the right to reductions on charges
for the use of the collective catalogue. Thus any of you can become a
partner of /CartoMundi/ as well as: the National Library and Archives of
Quebec, the Municipal Library of Marseille, the French National Library,
the New York Public Library, the French school in Athens, the French
school in Roma, the French National Geographic Institute, the Hungarian
Military Museum of Budapest, the Natural History Museum of Paris, the
Italian Society of Geography in Roma, the German National Library of
Berlin, the University of Jussieu, Sorbonne University, the University
of Liege, the University of Paris VIII, the University of Paris X, the
University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, Laval University of Quebec.
