Subject: GODORT program at DLC: Secrecy, Privacy and FOIA

Good Morning,

I am very pleased to invite you to attend the GODORT Program while
attending the Federal Depository Library Conference. This year, GODORT
celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Freedom of Information Act by
presenting a panel presentation entitled "Secrecy, Privacy, and FOIA:
Conflicts and Consistencies" where 3 panelists will discuss their
experiences working on FOIA and E-FOIA cases and issues in addition to
conflicts that may arise between FOIA and privacy.

Just as depository libraries and distribution have served to keep America
informed, these significant laws and regulations have kept American
government both open and accountable over the last fifty years. Pentagon
Papers, Presidential papers, environmental and health degradation, and the
use of assassination and torture have all been just a few of the extreme
examples of freedom of information law and reasonable privacy regulations
make the government transparent. Depository librarians are frequently the
link between this information and the patron seeking it.

When: Monday, October 17, 2005, 7:30pm - 9:00pm

Where: Hyatt Regency, Columbia B.

Panelists:
Meredith Fuchs, General Counsel
National Security Archive
George Washington University

Robert Gellman, Privacy and Information Policy Consultant
Columnist, GCN (Government Computer News)

Patrice McDermott, Deputy Director
Office of Government Relations
American Library Association

GODORT wishes to thank the U.S. Government Printing Office for providing
the time and space. I hope you will attend. If you have any questions
about this program, please contact me directly.

Sincerely,

Aimée
