We have several vertical file maps cabinets and we're trying to move away from them.  There is currently one of them, and we really don't know what all is in it, because it is quite stuffed, and it takes two or three strong individuals to be able to remove a file and then get the file back in.  I don't think they save space whatsoever - their foot print on the floor is the same as a flat file cabinet, but they can't be stacked, and they are not nearly as accessible.  I would also not want to put fragile or rare materials in those vertical file cabinets - you have to do some jostling to get the files in or out, and the maps are either smashed and stuffed in the cabinet, or else they're in there, but are not well supported and are probably going to rumple rather than staying straight.

Hello all,



My library is looking to free up some floor space, which means I have been asked to (on very short notice) recommend a vertical model for purchase. We have a collection of ~9000 maps of various sizes, and without very high use. We’re currently in a mismatched set of flat cabinets, some of which have a tendency to crush/crumple our folders.
