(I realize that MAPS-L and GIS-L readers include most subscribers of more
focused lists like IMAGRS-L, TGIS-L, UIGIS-L and VRGIS-L, so I won't
consume further bandwidth by cross-posting there as well.)

Over the past couple of years, there have been a number of inquiries
concerning potential sources of on-line spatial data files covering this
region or that.

I'd like to get a better idea of _if_ and _how_ the number of such requests
has increased over the past 30 months or so. I can begin by checking back
through GIS-L and MAPS-L Archives and contacting the managers of some of
the major anonymous FTP sites now holding such data.

Before reinventing the wheel, though, has anyone else already investigated
this? Any suggestions regarding which lists or newsgroups *beyond*
MAPS-L or GIS-L contain periodic requests for on-line sources of spatial
data and should therefore be polled as well?

Thanks in advance.
