Anthony,

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee worked for me. I would chose a good
library school with a well established map library and at a University with
an academic department(s) that teaches GIS courses on campus. Finding a map
library you can work in to gain experience and making some professional
contacts is probably more important than taking a course in map
librarianship. You may be able to take an independent study, internship or
fieldwork course from a map librarian on campus as well. University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign would probably be good, as would be many others
I do not know about.

Best wishes,
Scott R. McEathron

My name is Anthony and I am a recent graduate of
Rutgers University's geography department. I plan on
applying to graduate schools for Library Science in
the Fall 2002. I have examined various MLS programs,
but am having a hard time discerning what exactly a
good program entails for training as a map librarian.
I am hoping that those in-the-know could offer me
advice as to which schools would be be preferable in
regards to MLS training for a career as a map
librarian. Please respond to this e-mail address
([log in to unmask]). I look forward to reading any
and all input. Thank you all for your time.

                     Sincerely,

                     A. Tedeschi

Languor is underrated. Bone-lazy idleness, hours spent staring at the sky &
remembering books and birthdays & great kisses: this is the pure pleasure
that eludes the productive in all their confident superiority.
