Hi Carlos,

I agree with Gwen. These are important maps to keep and, in fact, we are
increasing our collecting in this area. We took in the California State
Automobile Association's Cartographic Unit's archives of AAA road maps
for the region (about 8,000 maps). We took in a national collection of
road maps and atlases from a former Stanford student of about 700 items.
We are now in discussions with another collector to take his collection
of about 14,000 road maps dating back to the 1920's.

We do get some use and I think that will go up as time goes on. We
catalog every one. Most can be copy cataloged from OCLC and so our
excellent Library Specialist, Steve, did the bulk of the work on the AAA
collection. Our maps circulate, too, which is nice for people.

Best,

Julie

One of the types of maps that we have collected over the years are AAA
maps, National Geographic maps, state maps published by the state, bike
maps.

I was wondering how many of you collect these types of maps. Do they get
circulated a lot? Do you see any value on having them and retaining
them? Do you catalog them and add them to your online catalog?

Any help you can give me would be most appreciated.
