In 1827 the Belgian Philippe van der Maelen produced the
 
'Atlas universel de geographie physique, statistique et
mineralogique sur l'echelle de 1:1,641,836 ou d'une ligne par
1900 toises'
 
The atlas on this uniform scale constructed on the modified
conical projection by Sanson-Flamsteed, comprises 376 sheets [+ 8
index sheets], together more than 103 square meters. When the
sheets are joined together they form a globe with a diameter of
7.75 meter, which was indeed built in the Etablissement
Geographique in Brussels.
 
A copy of this map is in the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (395 B 7),
the University Library of Amsterdam (364 A 13-18), the Map
Library of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences in Utrecht, the
Library of Congress (749) and the British Museum (maps 41 f. 1).
