From the most recent email of the NOAA Acting Administrator William
Brennan:

"I would like to congratulate Juliana P. Blackwell who was named the new
director of the NOS Office of National Geodetic Survey. NGS is the
oldest federal science agency, established by President Thomas Jefferson
in 1807 as the Survey of the Coast. Ms. Blackwell has a wealth of
experience including 16 years at the Survey and earlier service as a
NOAA Corps officer including work on hydrographic survey operations. Ms.
Blackwell will be the first woman to head the Survey in its 200-year
history".
