Would it be worthwhile to have CUAC ask for a file covering
map depositories (i.e. libraries supplied by USGS under
auspices of GPO)? It would help me (all of us?) greatly in
repatriating superseded map sheets. Is it on a URL already?

The current comprehensive list of United States Depository Libraries is
now available in vanilla ASCII text format on the University of
Missouri-St. Louis gopher. This set of files presenting depository
libraries by state (including Guam, Panama, Saipan, Samoa, Puerto Rico,
and the U.S. Virgin Islands) replaces the earlier files which only
listed those depository libraries receiving the NTDB and NESE CD-ROMs.

To access this information, point your gopher client at Internet address
UMSLVMA.UMSL.EDU (for UM-St. Louis CMS account holders, just type
"gopher" at the CMS "Ready;" prompt) and choose the following menu
options in the order indicated:

The Library
   Government Information
      Depository Libraries by State

For those with the technical wherewithal, the URL for this resource is:

   gopher://UMSLVMA.UMSL.EDU/11/LIBRARY/GOVDOCS/GDEP

Links to the earlier lists of libraries holding the NTDB or NESE compact
disc products should now point to these more comprehensive lists of
1,391 libraries, hence you should not need to update your links (though
prudence dictates general mistrust of such changes - check them out!).

The original information was extracted from the anonymous FTP site
ftp.fedworld.gov (192.239.92.205) as a "zipped" DBase file dlprof.zip in
the \misc subdirectory. The DBase files were then used to create the
ASCII text files you will see. Information is arranged by individual
files for each state. Within each state arrangement is alphabetically by
city; within each city arrangement is alphabetical by institution.
