Alice, you might try the Digital Chart of the World By Defense Mapping
Agency. The 4 CD-ROM set may well be overkill for your needs but the
Place Name locator will pick out even very small villages and includes more
populated places. It sells for $200 from any USGS Earth Science Information
Center.
